Celebrate Culture

Asianati celebrates Asian food and culture through stories, news, and our directory of Asian restaurants, food trucks, markets, bakeries, and more.

Our Story

We’re a group of friends whose experiences as Asian Americans are as varied and unique as the foods we crave. We wondered, How can we share our favorite dishes, celebrate our cultures, and amplify the voices of community trying to do the same?

In 2010, we started with Asian Food Fest, which has grown into an annual Cincinnati tradition. But with hundreds of independent, Asian-owned restaurants in the area and only 365 days to eat, we realized we needed more than one weekend and a park downtown to celebrate all this amazing food!

We love food as much as we love our Queen City, and we’re excited to share this labor of love with you. We hope you enjoy discovering new places, dishes, and cultures as much as we do.

Where are you from?

My family came over from Vietnam in 1975, but I was born in Cincinnati.

What are some of your favorite Asian dishes in Cincinnati?

There are too many, but the chicken pad thai at Thai Express stands out to me. When I first ate it 20 years ago, I thought it was one of the best things I've ever eaten, and 20 years later, that still holds true to me. I have yet to like a pad thai in any other city more.

Cincinnati is home.

What are some of your favorite Asian dishes in Cincinnati?

Hand-pulled noodles with veggies from Fortune Noodle House in University Heights. My mom made this dish a lot when I was growing-up. Fortune Noodle basically nails it.

Where are you from?

I was born in California, but raised in Cincinnati. My twenties have been spent in several cities, but I’m currently in Chicago now. Make no mistake, I am a bonafide Cincinnatian. I’m pretty sure Skyline Chili runs through my blood.

What are some of your favorite Asian dishes in Cincinnati?

Tom Yum Shrimp Ramen from Maki Express. I love food that blends the boundaries between traditional ethnic backgrounds (when it’s done with care).

Where are you from?

Where are you from: Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. I lived for many years in Philadelphia and consider that a second city. And in keeping with Cincinnati's much maligned tradition, I graduated from Deer Park High School.

What are some of your favorite Asian dishes in Cincinnati?

One of my favorite Asian dishes: The Chana Batura at Amma's Kitchen in Roselawn. This chickpea curry comes with a piece of bread puffed up to the size of a turkey. You have to pop it like a balloon to eat it. It's great entertainment for visitors and always gets raised eyebrows. Make sure to ask for the coconut chutney!!
